Because I am allergic to hair dye, I have to get highlights in my hair to keep the color I want. My hair grows very quickly, so my roots are often showing a couple weeks after getting my highlights done. I bought this product to try to lighten up my roots, and it is the best purchase I've made in years. In just 2 uses I saw a significant change and lightening of my hair. Now, after 4 uses, you can barely tell where my highlights blend in with my roots. Best product I've ever purchased.

I LOVE all the John Frieda Products, but The Sheer Blonde Controlled Lightening Spray really impressed me. I have been coloring my hair for 35 years and now that I am older I find that my color looks washed out after a few shampoos. But by spraying on the controlled lightening spray and blow drying my hair, it seems to bring my color back to life. I would recommend this product to anyone who has the same problem as me. It makes you feel like you've had your hair colored all over again. Great product!!

I get my highlights touched up about every 6-8 weeks which can sometimes get pretty pricey. So, instead of going to the salon, I decided to give the lightening spray a try. The smell is tolerable, but one thing I noticed is where I accidentally touched the spray with my fingertips while combing through my hair, my skin actually dried up and started peeling away. That should have been my first sign not to use it, but I did anyways. After about 2-3 uses, I will admit that it actually touched up my roots completely, but after the 4th use, my hair became an awful brassy color. Now, I have no choice but to go to the salon and have them try and fix this hideous color my hair turned because of the spray. Lesson learned: don't take the cheap/easy way out.

I naturally have very fine, very light blonde hair (never colored or highlighted) that gets duller during the long winters north of Chicago. Since I'm not a high-maintenance person, I decided to try to get back some summer highlights this past winter with this product. One application was all I needed to brighten my hair for the past eight weeks! I did notice a slight regrowth at the roots, so I may add some additional highlights to get me through until the full summer sun can do the job again. Pale blondes may want to be careful, as only one application made a very noticeable difference; you may not want to use this if you use the Go Blonder shampoo and conditioner (I use the highlight activating duo since the Go Blonder seems to leave my hair too limp.) I will definitely use this again as part of my normal Sheer Blonde regimen.

I love John Frieda products but the Controlled Lightening Spray ia awful. I used as directed and only on my roots and I am naturally medium blonde. I used it a couple of times and now my hair is very gummy and breakage nearface and crown.

If you plan on dying your hair after using this a few times or more, beware!! I did not know that my hair would literally snap off wherever the spray had been so now I'm left with literally a disaster. I had to buy wigs the disaster is so bad. There is no warning not to dye over this spray. I conditioned my hair a lot so the texture was fine but you must not dye over this product or you could lose your hair like I did. I have been dying and highlighting my hair for many years and when I tell you nothing like this has ever happened to me -- NEVER. Devasted.

I can't say enough about this product. Since I started using it over a year ago, I have not needed to get my hair professionally colored. I get asked at least once a week where I get my hair done and when I tell people what I use they are blown away that my hair is not done at a salon. I love, love, love this hair lightner and will never go back to having my hair colored again at a salon. I feel like I'm a walking advertisement for John Frieda.

I have been struggling with coloring my own hair for years...I used a touch of sun and it worked well until they discontinued it years ago...sun it is the worst and it was the only spray/blowdry option out there....I was told about this product yesterday...I ran out, purchased and used and I cant tell you...my hair is softer then it has ever been and it hasnt been this bright in YEARS!!!! I am thrilled!!!!! Thank you John Frieda!!!! You brought my blonde back!!!!

This product literally does EXACTY what it says it does. It is amazing! I spray my roots when my hair is damp, a few times a week, and proceed to style as I normally would. I notice more of a difference when I blow dry and straighten; the more direct heat following the spray the better. LOVE IT!

My hair color is dirty blonde. I have ALWAYS gone to the salon for any type of hair service. Like ALOT of you I was in need to save money and stretch out my salon needs. After watching a you tube video on this product I decided to buy. Once I did buy it, it sat on our vanity for a week. I was scared to death to put anything in my hair. My husband kept telling me to do it or take it back to the store. I decided to take it slow I have spaced out the application to once a week, I spray it on my roots to blend the out growth. I could tell after the first application. Just completed the 2nd application and WOW!! I will definitely keep using this product.

When I use this product at least three times in a row, my hair color appears to become slightly lighter than its usual shade. If you are able and willing to use this product consistently (at least three times a week), your hair will become lighter. However, I do not recommend it for those (like me) who are too lazy to use it multiple times each week. I have naturally medium blonde hair, so I honestly do not know if it is effective on darker-than-blonde hair.

My hair is medium to dark blonde. In the summer the sun gives me some natural highlights but not enough. I wanted some lightening and highlights but did not want to deviate from my natural color so much that I would be forced to repeat coloring to hide darker roots. I also didn't want brassy/orange hair and I needed something easy to use because I am no expert. This product is exactly what I was looking for. You control how light your hair is by how often you use it. I spray it all over rather than trying to separate strands for high-lighting but I get the high-lighted look I like anyway. If the roots do start looking too dark I can easily use it for a little touch-up. Love it!

The John Frieda® Go Blonder Lightening Spray is absolutely wonderful. It's great for the in between visits to the salon. (Well, now I don't even have to do that since John Frieda® has their own hair color!) But the spray is fantastic for keeping up with my color or just going a bit lighter in between the times I color my hair! I also have to suggest using the Go Blonder Shampoo and Conditioner. It's a definite help between coloring. It's great for preventing that brassy color that blondes can get after their color wears off. And besides, they all smell FANTASTIC!

So after reading these reviews online last night I decided to go purchase the product this afternoon. I just finished using it/ drying and straightening my hair and OMG it works! I have naturally very dark brown hair and am highlighted blonde. I just recently had my hair highlighted a few days ago but noticed some spots that were very brassy and some of my roots which were a little darker than i wanted. I used the Color Renew purple shampoo and the Go Blonder highlight spray and its like night and day. My roots went from too dark to beach blonde right before my eyes and it even eliminated some of the brassy tone. I could literally see the lightening of my hair before my eyes. It is subtle, which is nice since it is not dispensing any actual color, but just enough that it did exactly what I want after only one use. It also made my very broken hair feel beautifully silky. I will continue to use this product as needed and swear by it to keep me out of the salon for longer periods of time and keep my hair nourished and smooth. *** PS. Definitely use a straightener or curling iron to really see the difference immediately.
